Konya

Since I first visited Konya in 1991, it has almost tripled in size and gained a certain cosmopolitan Islamic chic. Female fashion involves tight body coverings and designer headscarves. There is a pretty tramway system, a bicycle hire scheme like in Paris and London, and a network of cycle paths which are actually used. It seems to be the only place in Turkey where everyone obeys the speed limit. My tip for Turkey’s next capital. Before 2100.
